MassLink user manual
Everything you need to install, capture, categorise, and export LinkedIn leads with MassLink.
Contents
1. What MassLink does
MassLink turns your own LinkedIn network and search results into an organised, exportable lead list.
It reads the pages you are already looking at. It never clicks, never scrolls for you, and never sends requests to LinkedIn on your behalf. You browse; MassLink transcribes what appears on your screen and keeps it on your machine.
Capture your connections and search results as you scroll.
Categorise everyone against your own ideal-customer profile, using AI.
Notice what changed — new connections and who changed jobs — every time you re-scan.
2. Installing
From the store
Install from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons, then pin the MassLink icon to your toolbar (Chrome: puzzle-piece icon then pin; Firefox: Extensions, gear, Pin to Toolbar). You'll need the icon to reach the popup.
Development install
Chrome — go to chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and select the dist/chrome/ folder.
Firefox — go to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, click Load Temporary Add-on, and select dist/firefox/manifest.json (the file, not the folder).
Firefox temporary add-ons unload when you restart the browser; repeat the steps each session. Chrome unpacked extensions persist until removed.
Your data is per-browser. MassLink stores everything locally, so Chrome and Firefox keep separate collections and each needs its own licence key.
3. Capturing your connections
Go to My Network → Connections (linkedin.com/mynetwork/invite-connect/connections/).
A blue MassLink · Connections panel appears. Scroll the list the way you normally would — every connection that comes into view is captured, deduplicated, and saved. The counter climbs as you go.
The panel is draggable (grab the header), can be minimised or closed. Closing it stays closed; reopen from the toolbar popup.
What gets captured
Only what the page actually shows:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Name | |
| Headline | The full text under the name, verbatim |
| Connected On | Only when LinkedIn renders a date — otherwise left blank on purpose |
| Profile URL | |
| Slug | The stable id from the profile link; used to avoid duplicates |
| Scraped At | When you captured it |
Nothing is guessed. There are no "Job title" or "Company" columns, because the connections page doesn't show those as separate fields — inventing them would put guesses next to facts. The AI can infer them separately (see below), clearly labelled.
You only collect what you scroll past. That's the design. A full capture of a large network takes as long as it takes to scroll it.
4. Discovery — people and company search
Run any LinkedIn search and switch to the People or Companies tab. An amber MassLink · Discovery panel appears (amber so you never confuse it with the blue connections panel). Scroll, or click Next through the pages — each result is read as it renders.
People
Name, Headline, Location, connection degree
Companies
Company, Industry · Location, Size / Followers
Any field the page didn't show appears as a red (none) so gaps are obvious rather than hidden.
Switching between People and Companies, or starting a new search, resets the panel for the new result set. Everything already captured is safely stored.
Free plan: 10 distinct searches per month. Re-opening a search you've already counted is free. Paid: unlimited.
5. Setting up your ICP
Before the AI can categorise anything, tell it what you're looking for. In either panel, click ICP and fill in:
- What do you sell, and to whom? — one or two plain sentences. Example: "I sell edge AI gateways to automotive OEMs in ASEAN."
- Categories — comma-separated buckets. Example: OEM buyer, Systems integrator, Investor, Government, Not relevant
Click Save ICP. Always include a "Not relevant" style bucket — it's what lets the model say no, which is what makes the other categories mean something.
6. Categorising with AI
Click Categorise in either panel.
MassLink sends the captured headlines to be classified against your ICP, in batches, and fills in a Category column with a confidence score. Progress is shown live and results are saved as they arrive — if you close the tab mid-run, everything already done is kept, and running again picks up only what's left.
Categorising the same people twice costs nothing: results are cached until your ICP prompt changes.
What is sent: the headline text only. Never your contacts' names, profile URLs, or slugs — those stay on your machine. Categorisation is stateless: nothing is stored on the server.
7. Refining a search
After categorising a search, click Refine search in the Discovery panel.
MassLink looks at how your results scored against your ICP and suggests better searches — for example, telling you that "Founder" is too broad because most results scored Not relevant, and offering narrower queries with suggested filters. Each suggestion is a link: click it to run that search.
8. The dashboard
Toolbar icon → Open dashboard. Four tabs:
On each list tab you can:
- Filter across every visible column
- Sort by clicking a column header (click again to reverse)
- Delete a single row or Clear this tab
- Filter by category once rows are categorised
- Export that tab to CSV or Excel
9. Delta — what changed
The Delta tab is the reason to come back. It shows two things about your most recent capture:
New connections
"N new since last capture", and once categorised, "M match your ICP". Matches are listed first.
Job changes
"N changed roles this scan, M now match your ICP", showing each person's old headline struck through next to the new one. A role change is one of the strongest reasons to reach out.
Job-change tracking starts from your next capture onward. MassLink can only spot a change by comparing two captures, so the first scan establishes the baseline and the second is when changes appear. It deliberately does not report "removed" connections — someone you simply didn't scroll to is not someone you lost, and a false alarm there is worse than silence.
10. Exporting
CSV is available on every tab, on every plan. Excel (.xlsx) is a paid feature.
Exports respect your current filter — so you can filter to one category, or search "founder", and export just those rows.
When rows have been categorised, the export gains extra columns, each labelled (inferred): Category, Confidence, Employer, Role, Seniority, Country. They sit alongside the original Headline they were derived from, so you can always check the model's work against the source text. Fields the model couldn't determine are left empty rather than guessed.
11. Free and paid

Current price shown in the extension (toolbar icon → Upgrade), fetched live so it's always accurate. No credits and nothing is metered per lead. See pricing page.
12. Entering a licence key
Toolbar icon → scroll to Licence → paste your key → Save key. The badge turns green and reads Pro. Enter it once per browser.
If the licence server is unreachable, MassLink keeps your last known status rather than dropping you to Free — being offline never costs you access you've paid for.
13. Your data and privacy
Plainly, what the code does:
- Everything is stored locally, in your browser. There is no MassLink account and no server-side copy of your contacts.
- MassLink makes no requests to LinkedIn. It reads the rendered page only.
- When you use AI categorisation or Refine, only headline text is sent to the categorisation service. Names, profile URLs and slugs never leave your machine.
- Categorisation is stateless — the text is classified and not retained.
- Clear buttons (per surface, in the popup or dashboard) delete local data immediately and permanently.
The exported file contains other people's personal data. Handle it in line with whatever rules apply to you — GDPR, PDPA and similar. An export of your own network is generally fine to work from; it is not a list to redistribute.
The formal privacy policy is a separate published document and is the binding statement — this section describes behaviour, not legal terms.
14. Troubleshooting
The panel doesn't appear.
Check you're on a supported page (connections list, or a People/Companies search). If you closed it, reopen from the toolbar popup. After updating the extension, reload it (Chrome: reload button on the card; Firefox: Reload on about:debugging) and refresh the LinkedIn tab.
"Categorise" says it needs Pro.
Your licence key isn't saved in this browser — keys are per-browser. Check the popup shows a green Pro badge.
Categorising paused with "Rate limit reached — resuming in Ns".
Normal. The service limits request rate; MassLink waits and continues by itself. Don't reload.
Some rows failed to categorise.
They're counted, not hidden. Run Categorise again — it retries only what's missing.
The Delta tab says "Nothing changed since last capture".
Correct, not a bug — you need two captures for a comparison. Scroll your connections again later.
Discovery says I've hit my monthly limit.
Free plan is 10 distinct searches per month; it resets on the 1st. Already-captured results stay available.
LinkedIn itself says I've hit a search limit.
That's LinkedIn's own commercial-use limit on free accounts, not MassLink, and MassLink can't lift it. It resets monthly.
Counts differ between Chrome and Firefox.
Expected — local storage is per-browser.
15. Known limits
- You only capture what you scroll past.
- Job-change detection needs two captures and starts from the first one after upgrading to v0.4.0.
- Removed connections are not reported (by design — see Delta).
- LinkedIn changes its page markup periodically; if a column starts coming back empty, that's the signal, and it needs a parser update.
